Many veterinarians may have received an email from DORA sent on behalf of Governor Polis asking about personal protective equipment (PPE) and other critical supplies throughout Colorado. The following are recommendations for re-use and conservation of personal protective equipment from the AVMA based on FDA and CDC information. Read the full information on the AVMA website. Updated April 6: Governor Polis issued an extension of his executive order temporarily suspending elective and non-essential surgeries and procedures. Elective and non-essential surgeries and procedures are now suspended until April 26. Read the April 6 order here. The following message was shared with CVMA from Dr. Jennifer House, State Public Health Veterinarian: CDPHE Laboratory Services is temporarily diverting ALL rabies testing requests to the Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (CSU VDL). All rabies laboratory staff are currently working on the COVID-19 response and are not available for rabies testing. At this time it is best to ship any specimens directly to CSU VDL to avoid unnecessary testing delays. CVMA supports SB 20-164 (Treatment of Dogs and Cats in Shelters and Rescues), which creates the Socially Conscious Animal Sheltering Act. Read the full text of the bill here.
