CVMA member and past president John Young, DVM passed away on June 13, 2023. Dr. Young had a mobile veterinary clinic and was president of CVMA in 2001. CVMA leaders and the Colorado veterinary community mourn his passing and extend condolences to his family.
Obituary
Dr. John K. Young of Kersey, Colorado passed away due to complications following heart surgery. He was born in Hot Springs, New Mexico to Hobarts and Gladys Young. Raised in New Mexico and a graduate of New Mexico State University, he relocated to Colorado to attend Colorado State University where he graduated with a DVM degree. He and wife, Lynn, raised their family in Greeley and then moved to Arvada where he had a mobile equine practice for 30 years.
John was very active in numerous civic and professional groups and ultimately president of most: Greeley Jaycees; Greeley Independence Stampede Committee; Greeley Area Chamber of Commerce; Colorado Veterinary Medical Association; The Academy of Veterinary Consultants; Colorado State Fair Commission; Colorado Agriculture Commission but the organization near and dear to his heart was the Roundup Riders of the Rockies. He was happiest on the back of a horse and rode with RRR for 25 years. He was predeceased by his parents. Survivors include wife of 63 years, Lynn; sister, Marolyn; children, Doug (Diane), Lova, Lisa (Mark), 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held August 19, 2023, 2 p.m,. at Platte River Fort east of Greeley, 22999 US 34, Greeley.
