CVMA Advocacy: House Bills 24-1047 and 24-1048 are Under Consideration

CVMA Advocacy: House Bills 24-1047 and 24-1048 are Under Consideration

One of the most essential and impactful things Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) does is advocate on behalf of the veterinary profession in Colorado.

Since the summer of 2023, CVMA’s Advocacy Commission has been very active in review and discussion of House Bill 24-1047 Veterinary Technician Scope of Practiceand House Bill 24-1048 Providing Veterinary Services Through Telehealth. This includes, representing our members at a full day workshop with Representative Karen McCormick and the Water Resources and Agriculture Review Committee in September.

This week, six CVMA members testified at the hearing and we’re excited to share that Representative McCormick’s House Bill 24-1047 and House Bill 24-1048 were passed unanimously by the House Agriculture, Water & Natural Resources Committee on Monday, February 5. You can listen to the recorded proceedings here. Both bills will move into readings with the House of Representatives this week. As considerations continue, our goal is to see these bills passed into law.

CVMA is urging our members, to reach out to their local Senator and Representative, or Governor Jared Polis to share personal experiences that will amplify our support of HB24-1047 and HB24-1048. To find your local legislators, search here. And to contact the Governor, start here.

CVMA will continue to share additional information and visibility as it becomes available.
