What’s the purpose of the Academy?

The Colorado Academy of Veterinary Practice exists to encourage, recognize, and honor Colorado veterinarians who exceed licensure requirements for continuing education credits, thereby demonstrating their commitment to knowledge, personal growth, and professional competency.

What are the requirements for Academy membership?

Members of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society (DAVMS) are eligible for membership in the Academy.  An enrollment form must be submitted annually.  The enrollment form is used to document a minimum of 50 CE credits attained during a calendar year.  Members who attain 75 CE credits or more during a calendar year will be designated as Academy Scholars.

What types of CE are eligible?

CE credits for scientific and practice management programs will be accepted if those programs are (1) approved by RACE or the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine or (2) are sponsored by DAVMS, CVMA (or its district associations), accredited educational institutions or teaching hospitals, or nationally recognized CE meetings.  Requests for questionable CE credits will be evaluated by an appropriate CVMA or DAVMS committee.

When and how will Academy members be recognized?

Enrollment forms, itemizing CE credits for the prior calendar year, must be submitted by the indicated deadline date.  Certificates that reflect the year and the specific number of CE credits being recognized are mailed to CAVP members.  CAVP member rosters will appear in the CVMA and DAVMS newsletters, on both associations' Web sites, and in the Colorado DVM Directory.

How is the Academy administered?

The Academy is a program that is jointly sponsored by CVMA and DAVMS, and administered by its staff.  Program revenues and expenses are shared equally by the two organizations.
